| The Connecticut Career Resource Network Update is published three times a year by the Department of Labor, Office of Research and the Connecticut Career Resource Network. It
provides individuals in the educational and occupational training communities with information on resources and upcoming events. Articles include reviews of new Web sites and books, occupational descriptions, announcements of conferences and job fairs, and other articles of interest.

Featured Articles: Connecticut Learns and Works Conference Friday, May 5, 2023, Water’s Edge Resort & Spa 1525 Boston Post Rd, Westbrook, Connecticut 06498 Theme: “Equity & Inclusion" - Connecting Education & Labor as a "New Normal" Emerges The Connecticut Learns and Works Conference is an annual conference for educators, counselors, employment and training specialists and business persons interested in career and workforce development. Professionals from the business community, education, higher education and workforce development boards were brought together to form the Learns and Works committee. Our goal is to better inform educators, counselors and job developers how changes in the workplace will affect jobs and careers in the future.. State launches job training program to help people who lost jobs during COVID Gov. Ned Lamont announced the launch of CareerConneCT, a job training initative that provides $70 million to get people who lost their jobs amid COVID-19 back to work. The program includes 19 job training programs meant to create pathways to employment in high-quality, indemand careers. Updated Connecticut Career Paths 56-page guide is well organized for quick references that include the locations and contact information for the American Job Centers, Labor Department’s Job Bank-CTHires.com, Career and Educational Resources, and Government Resources in Connecticut. Articles in the guide also provide information on advanced manufacturing, apprenticeship, core components of student success plans, employment of minors, résumé design basics, and steps to become a teacher. It also contains data on more than 360 occupations in the state, including narrative descriptions, number of individuals currently employed, annual job openings, salary information, required training and basic skills sought by employers. Occupational Outlook Handbook The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) provides information on what workers do; the work environment; education, training, and other qualifications; pay; the job outlook; information on state and area data; similar occupations; and sources of additional information. Featured Articles: Minimum Wage Information - As of January 1st 2016, the minimum wage for Connecticut is $9.60 per hour, and will increase to $10.10 by 2017. In Connecticut, for minors working in agriculture or government, it is 85% of minimum wage ($8.16), and for minors working in other industries, it is 85% ($8.16) for the first 200 hours. Comprehensive American Job Centers - The American Job Center (AJC) system is a partnership of organizations working as a team to promote a universal approach to providing effective workforce assistance to job seekers and businesses. This collaboration of state, regional and local organizations is designed to provide a seamless delivery system of programs and services. Occupational Profile: Actuaries Featured Connecticut Digest Article: A New Approach to Analyzing the Gender Wage Gap "Equal Pay Day” takes place on a Tuesday in April (April 12th this year), symbolizing how far into the workweek women must work to earn what men earned the previous week. The gender wage gap is calculated by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS), and is based on data collected through surveys. This article takes a new approach to understanding the gender wage gap using wage records from Connecticut’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) program. Top 10 Fastest-growing occupations requiring bachelor’s degree or higher, postsecondary training or associate degree, work experience or on-the-job training. 16th Annual Connecticut Learns and Works Conference The sixteenth annual Connecticut Learns and Works Conference was conducted at Water’s Edge in Westbrook on May 14th, 2010 with over 200 attendees. This year’s conference included popular workshops like Next Generation Virtual Workers, New and Existing Pathways to Emerging Health Careers, Innovative Programs for Youth, Training Programs for Emerging Green Jobs, Employers Investing in Youth, and The Real Games Digital. All workshops were well received. |
